Additional Property Attributes

Samples of potential asbestos containing material (ACM) were collected from building spaces in the Tecumseh Square Shopping Center, the Newton Walls building, and from fire brick lining of the incinerator located behind retail space 1125. Laboratory analytical results of the samples indicated that ACM was detected in the floor tile, wallboard and mud/texture, and mastic in some of the spaces sampled. A Family Dollar store (1110 Holly Ave) and its asphalt covered parking lot were previously located in the southwest corner of the site in 1994. According to Oklahoma Corporation Commission?s records the two Underground Storage Tanks formerly associated with this store have been removed from the ground. The Shopping Center was reportedly built in 1976 ??77.The building was reportedly occupied in the past by the Absentee Shawnee Bandage Company, which produced special bandages for the U.S. Department of Defense. The building was also used at some point in time as a TG&Y Family Center. The TG&Y Family Center reportedly functioned as a retail department store with a section on the southeast end that was an automotive service center. Former Use: The Newton Walls building is located to the southeast of the former Shopping Center, and is bound by undeveloped land to the north and east, and to the south by Holly Lane and the ODOT right-of-way. The former Shopping Center (now torn down) consisted of approximately 90,000 square feet of retail space, which included video store, grocery store, dentist office, a former location of Newton Walls, and other unknown past uses. The 53,100 square foot Newton Walls building is the only remaining building on this property. It was formerly used as a bandage company, warehouse for Newton Walls, TG&Y with an automotive department, and as a haunted warehouse. The building is now vacant. DEQ named the site Tecumseh Department Store. The environmental consultant mistakenly called the building the Former Grocery Store. A grocery store was never in this building. The grocery store was actually next door in the former shopping center that was torn down. The legal description of the site is a part of the West Half of Section 7, Township 9N, Range 4E of the I.M, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. The site is located immediately adjacent to HWY 177 and just north of the HWY177 and HWY 9 interchange in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. The former property address for the Tecumseh Square Shopping Center is 1103 through 1131 Holly Lane and that for the Newton Walls building is 1201 Holly Lane, Tecumseh.
