Additional Property Attributes

A supplemental assessment, including the installation of groundwater monitoring wells, commenced on August 23, 2010. The assessment will further define site conditions and facilitate future redevelopment.

Former Use: The Site was developed as early as 1913 by Electric Steel Company of Indiana. Later, the name changed to Electric Steel Castings Co., which operated a carbon and low-alloy steel castings manufacturing process at the Site until operations ceased in 2002. Speedway Lumber Company also operated out of the southern portion of the Site from at least 1941 until 1966, when Electric Steel Castings purchased this land and used the lumber company buildings for its own process expansion. It appears that approximately 15 buildings were formerly located at the site. Sanborn maps and aerial photographs do not depict major structural/layout changes at the Site from at least the mid-1960s until at least the late 1990s. After manufacturing operations ceased in 2002, the property was purchased by Norman J. Gallivan, who operated an auctioneering business. Under the business name Tenth & Main LLC, Mr. Gallivan owned the property from 2004 until it was recently sold to the Speedway Redevelopment Commission in February 2009. During the time Mr. Gallivan owned the property, several of the former Electric Steel Castings buildings were demolished. Also during this time frame, various buildings at the property were leased to Gallivan Auctioneers, Pump Pros and AES Midwest Restaurant Equipment. In spring 2009, the Speedway Redevelopment Commission oversaw the dismantling and demolition of most of the remaining buildings, except for two.
