Additional Property Attributes

The City of Ypsilanti was awarded a 300,000 sub grant to assist in environmental response actions at a vacant manufacturing facility. 125,240.26 of the sub-grant was funded through DCCBC Cooperative Agreement No.BL-00E01001-0. The remaining 174,760 of the sub grant was funded through this Cooperative Agreement. Remediation activities included demolition of a concrete floor slab to provide access for cleanup of contaminated soils underneath the building and the remediation of contaminated soil. The site is a portion of the 38-acres City owned Water Street redevelopment area. The City of Ypsilanti has been awarded a 2009 USEPA Hazardous Materials Cleanup Grant for portions of the work at the site. Planning for the redevelopment of the site and surrounding Water Street area began in 1998 with an assessment and community involvement process funded by the USEPA Brownfield Assessment Demonstration Pilot Grant. The area was selected based in its key locations as a gateway to the downtown and Historic District, and for the recognized challenges to redevelopment of the site. Redevelopment is expected to be a combination of residential, retail, office, entertainment, research and similar uses by multiple development partners.

Former Use: Historically the subject property was operated as an automotive manufacturing facility which expanded operations from the 1920s to the 1950s. Parcel 26 was most recently operated as a recycling facility however the building is currently vacant.
