Additional Property Attributes

Wyandotte purchased the property due to its lcoation next to the City Hall. The property consisted of a deteriorating building, was unused, and was inhibiting the revitalization of the Downtown area. Demolition of the property provided a clean slate to attract future developers and will spark future redevelopment of the area. Wyandotte budgeted 350,000 to begin the redevelopment process. Removal of the asbestos has assisted in the property development.

Former Use: The property was originally developed in the 1800s and was part of the Eureka Iron and Steel Works property. The property was vacated in approximately the early 1900s and was redeveloped in the early 1920s with the Wyandotte Public library. The property continued this use until the 1940s, when the building was demolished and the most recent commercial building was constructed in 1946. The building was divided into three retail units and was occupied by United Shirts, Winklemans, and Bakers Shoes until the early 1960s, when the property began operating as Richwood Furniture. In approximately the mid 1960s, the property began operating as Fogel Furniture and continued this use until April 1, 2009, when the property was vacated.
