Additional Property Attributes

The site is located in an area of mixed residential and commercial land use. The site is currently owed by the Village of Syracuse. It consists of one small structure on the property that is in poor condition. The single story building is approximately 660 square feet and has a basement. The Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department uses the building for storage of excess equipment that includes tables, chairs, fire hoses and SCBA tanks. There are two gasoline underground storage tanks UST of unknown size on the south side of the structure as well as the concrete of the former pump island. On the west side of the building is a bare patch of ground that is the approximate location of a former grease pit. There are also two abandoned cisterns on the property. One is located on the southwest side of the property and has been filled in. The other is located on the northwest side of the property and was converted to a septic tank before it was abandoned in place. There may also be a heating oil tank on the northeast side of the building based on the observation of a fill port protruding from the ground surface and associated piping entering the building. The remainder of the site is mainly grass with some asphalt in front of the pump island and house.

Former Use: According to Mr. Lisle, the Subject Property had historically operated as a Sohio gas station run by his parents from the 1920s until sometime in the 1960s when Mrs. Gertrude Hall took ownership. The chain-of-ownership report lists Clifford and Gertrude Hall as purchasing the property in 1969 Mr. Lisle indicated that the service station was closed and abandoned shortly thereafter. Mr. Hoffman indicated that between 1969 and 1993, the Property was briefly used as a residence, but for the most part was abandoned. The Village of Syracuse purchased the property in 1993, and it has sat vacant since. The Fire Department is currently using the service station building on the Subject Property for storing excess equipment including tables, chairs, a vending machine, fire hoses, SCBA tanks, generators, and other fire fighting equipment.
