Additional Property Attributes

The school was built in 1957, and an addition was built in 1962. The building included a hallway of classrooms, gym/theater, cafeteria, and a room for the Future Farmers of America FFA. A basement is located underneath the gym that includes both boys and girls lockers rooms, a weight room, and a boiler room. The basement and boiler room were flooded with water prior to the site visit the water was pumped out for the site reconnaissance. The roof of the building is in disrepair a large portion is missing in the FFA room. The interior of the building is teriorating due to its abandonment in 1991. Also included on the school grounds are a bus garage, concession stand, and ticket booth, all built approximately 1970. A football field and tennis courts are located directly west of the school building, and a baseball field is located between the building and State Route 160. A small building was formerly located on the southeast corner of the football field it has since been demolished and a pile of cinder blocks are located in its place. Water supply for the school was obtained from a pond is that is located northwest of the school building three onsite groundwater wells also provided water. Water was stored in an onsite cistern west of the school. A sewage treatment plant is located northeast of the school building, adjacent to an unnamed stream. The land to the west and north of the football field is wooded. An unregistered UST of unknown size is currently on the Property, off the southwest corner of the gym. The UST reportedly contains approximately 12 feet of fuel oil #2, which is not regulated by BUSTR.

Former Use: The current owner of record is the Vinton Baptist Church. The property was purchased by the Gallia County School Board in 1956, and the school opened in 1957. Four area high schools in the area including North Gallia were closed and consolidated in 1991 the school has been vacant since. The Vinton Baptist Church purchased the property in 2008 in hopes of expanding. The church is located to the east of the school across State Route 160.
