Additional Property Attributes

Summitville Tile opened in 1912 as a tile manufacturing facility. The plant housed two operations a fast fire plant and a kiln plant. The kiln plant closed in the fall of 2002, and the fast fire plant closed in the summer of 2003. No manufacturing currently takes place at the plant. An office building is still in use on the property, and is situated to the west of the plant in the parking lot. Two small buildings are situated adjacent to the southwest corner of the plant one houses a gas meter, and the other contains water treatment equipment for the on-site well. An additional building is situated to the east of the plant. A schematic provided by Ohio EPA indicates this building was a carpenter shop. Mr. DeLoach indicated that the building had also been used as the power house. Summitville Lake is located to the north of the plant. Mr. DeLoach indicated that water from the pond was previously used to fill the on-site water tower for fire protection.

Former Use: The current owner of record is the Summitville Face Brick Company portions of the plant have been in operation since 1912. A fire occurred in 1950, and another in 1952. The 1952 fire destroyed 60 percent of the plant, which was then rebuilt. Production at the plant ceased in 2003, tiles are now produced at Summitville Tiles Minerva, Ohio location. The Summitville site is currently used by Summitville Tile also known as Summitville Face Brick Company for storage of finished goods, part-time tile sample packaging, and as office space.
