Additional Property Attributes

City of Salem plans to acquire the property for incorporation into Waterfront Park. Grant funds were used for data gap analysis for future sampling and to prepare conceptual drawings for community outreach and future funding requests.

Former Use: The site is bounded by the Willamette River and the Willamette Slough to the west, a City of Salem park to the north, Commercial Street SE and the Salem Convention Center to the east, and Bellevue Street and a furniture store to the south. Adjacent properties are developed for commercial and industrial uses. Portions of the site have been used for wood products mills (saw mills), a flour mill and a foundry. A paper mill operated at the site for decades, beginning in the 1950s. Boise Cascade was the owner and operator of the paper mill from 1962 to when it was shut down in the early 1980s. Since closure of the mill the property has been subdivided and sold to various parties. Several properties are currently undergoing redevelopment with commercial and urban residential development, as well as more park land to be added to the City's Riverfront Park
