Additional Property Attributes

In 2018, Pacific Office Automation opened its first Salem office at 260 Liberty St. NE, fully renovating a vacant downtown building. The office equipment supply company currently occupies approximately 7,800 square feet on the ground floor of the 29,800 square-foot building, employing approximately 50 staff at the site. Other tenants are expected to lease the remaining available space, contributing additional jobs. Adjacent to the 260 Liberty property, 280 Liberty St. NE was the site of a vacant building. The building has now been demolished, and the site made shovel-ready for redevelopment. Prior to demolition of the building, historic elements of the building fa�e were carefully preserved under the supervision of City and State Historic Preservation Office staff. The final cost of the 260 Liberty St. renovation was $1.5 million. The total cost of the land purchase for both sites was $1.7 million. EPA Brownfield Grant funds ($8,878) were used to complete a Phase I ESA in January 2017. The assessment allowed the project to move forward and allowed the City to add $280,088 in urban renewal funds.

Former Use: A gas station operated on the property in the 1940s. Other historical uses include a tire repair shop, automobile painting, single-family homes, and commercial businesses.
