Additional Property Attributes

The property owner indicated that six USTs containing fuel were pumped dry and filled with sand in the late 1970s; however, there is no documentation of this UST closure since it occurred prior to DEQ closure regulations. The presence of USTs on the property was not determined with certainty by a Geophysical survey that was completed; however, magnetic and ground penetrating radar (GPR) anomalies were noted in the approximate areas where the USTs may have been located. Petroleum hydrocarbon impacts to soil were identified and additional assessment is recommended to further delineate these impacts. Petroleum hydrocarbons and VOCs were identified in groundwater above state and federal thresholds, and additional assessment is recommended. Asbestos and lead based paint (LBP) was identified in building materials in the onsite building. It was recommended that these materials be abated by accredited contractors prior to renovation or demolition of structures at the property.

Former Use: The Site is located in a commercial/industrial area in Billings, Montana. The Site consists of a one-story retail building and a parking lot that adjoins the building to the west and southwest. The Site was previously used as a gas station called Gallagher Serv-Ur-Self Gas from 1965 until the late 1970s. In the late 1970s, six USTs containing fuel were reportedly pumped dry and filled with sand. The previous owner was Virgina C. Stone.
