Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The property is roughly L- shaped and is 4.69 acres in size. The property is located to the south and east of Water Avenue and Sylvan Street behind the Old Depot Museum property. Improvements include a former metal railroad warehouse building encompassing approximately 9,500 square feet. The subject property formerly had multiple uses including a freight depot beginning in 1898, and numerous businesses using it as a railroad warehouse for shipping products by rail. The businesses included a harrow company (1903), wholesale grocery, farm implements, furniture and hardware (1907-1913), a coal yard (1949), a beer distributor (1959-1975), and two oil companies (1949-1963). Throughout its history the property was used as the freight railroad and passenger rail station for the Western Railroad and then L&N Railroad. The freight depot building on the southwest corner has been vacant since the 1960s or 1970s, and the multiple rail lines through the property appeared to have been vacated sometime in the 1970s. Most of the site is currently overgrown and not in use.
