Additional Property Attributes

The Site historically operated as a filing station and/or automotive repair facility from at least 1938 through 1983. The 1950 and 195 Sanborn Maps depict five underground oil tanks beneath the former Site building; however, no information pertaining to the installation or closure of these oil USTs was discovered during the preparation of this Phase I ESA. Further, based on a review of previous environmental assessment reports pertaining to the Site, it does not appear that the area of the former Site building was investigated for the presence of the USTs or potential petroleum impact to environmental media. Therefore, the status of these five oil USTs is undetermined and the potential exists for petroleum constituents to have been released from one or more of the USTs, which represents a REC for the Site. Four gasoline USTs were formerly located at the Site associated with the former filling station operations. Three of the former gasoline USTs were removed in accordance with BUSTR?s guidance and regulations and their closures have been granted NFA status. The fourth gasoline UST that was formerly located in the northeast corner of the Site appears to have been removed from the Site prior to establishment of the federal UST rules and subsequent creation of BUSTR in 1984 and 1988 respectively as BUSTR did not have records pertaining to this UST. However, a 2007 Phase II ESA did not identify petroleum impact proximate to the location of this former UST. Accordingly, the former gasoline USTs represent a HREC and not a REC in connection with the Site. Former Use: The Site is comprised of approximately 0.92 acre of vacant commercial land situated southwest of East Market Street, which provides access to and from the Site. The Site is an undeveloped gravel or grassy lot with the exception of a concrete slab remnant of a former building located in the northeast portion of the Site. According to a review of city directories, parcel transfer records, and Sanborn Maps, historical Site usages included the following: Low Price Filling Stations, Inc. (1937 through 1948); Filling Station (1950 through 1955); Work Motors Market Place-used cars (1954); Sandusky Metal Products (1967 through 1993); and an Auto Repair facility (1968 through 1983). According to a review of historical aerial photographs, the former Site building appears to have been razed between 2011 and 2015.
