Additional Property Attributes

The Phase I ESA covers this property (Bitton) and the Sierra Terrace property. Previous subsurface investigations identified elevated metals concentrations in soil where sulphuret tailings were encountered, the presence of arsenic in surface water and groundwater samples, and elevated concentrations of VOCs in soil and groundwater associated with activities at an adjacent former dry cleaners/gas station.

Former Use: The east portion of the property is a vacant, fenced gravel lot, and the west portion of the property is a vacant paved lot with an entrance from East Main Street. The property was used as an auto sales lot and for parking from the early 2000s until March 2018 and has been vacant since that time. The Hills Sulphuret Works property was constructed in 1862, and the sulphuret works facility boundary included a portion of the property. The Hills Sulphuret Works discontinued operations in the site vicinity in the late 1800s to early 1900s. The area east of the subject property, along East Main Street, was developed with commercial buildings beginning in the 1930s. Businesses of potential environmental interest included a ranch and garden supply, auto body and repair shops, an auto dealership, a dry cleaner, and a gas station.
