Additional Property Attributes

The subject property consists of two contiguous parcels of land totaling approximately 5.7 acres. The center of the property is currently developed with a vacant and dilapidated commercial structure, vacant and dilapidated barn, and a shed. There is a concrete pad to the north of the barn and gravel parking/drive areas in between the barn and commercial structure. A lift station structure and a creek are also located near the west-central boundary of the property. The remainder of the property consists of grassy areas and wooded land. The 1913 fire insurance map indicates the center of the subject property was occupied by The Selma Spoke Company (dry kiln, stock shed, mill, rail spur, office, dust collector, etc.). Historical aerial photographs, topographic maps, and fire insurance maps indicate the property was developed with a residence on the east-central portion from at least 1925 to at least 1949 and was developed with Hardie Avenue (unpaved road) from at least 1937 to at least 1974. Historical records indicate the presence of a junk yard covering the majority of the subject property from at least 1949 to at least 2008 and a structure associated with the junk yard from at least 1950 to at least 1998. City directories indicate the subject property was occupied by Cox Oil Company in 1967, Dixie Auto Parts from at least 1967 to at least 2008, Recycle Center in 1988, and Circle T Towing in 2008. Historical records and property records from the Dallas County Revenue Commission indicate the property has been developed with the current commercial structure since 1962, the current lift station structure since at least 1985, and the current barn since at least 1998. The property is owned by the State of Alabama.
