Property Highlights

Planning efforts were underway by the Hampton Redvelopment and Housing Authority to reuse and develop the site as a mixed-income residential community. Plans have been delayed due to the on-site environmental conditions.

Former Use: Property was the site of the former Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind and Multidisabled (VSDBH). The school operated on 75 acres from 1909 until 2008. The city purchased 50 of the 75 acres subsequent to the school's closure. The city-owned portion consists of athletic fields, institutional buildings, parking lots and storage structures. The site has been extensively vandalized which has complicated the clean-up of the site.
