Additional Property Attributes

Monks wish to place a deed restriction on the property, ensuring that it will never be used as a feedlot or CAFO again. They are in negotiations with a potential purchaser who will operate site as a mill. Pens and some manure are being removed. A risk evaluation will be performed to determine the need for and extent of cleanup. (PPF- 5/22/08)

Former Use: This site has been an operating feedlot since the 1960s. Following is a list of past ownership information: 101 Cattle Company-started and operated as a feedlot-all parties are now deceased. Richard Hormachen-RMH Company, P O Box 6887, Boise, Idaho 83707-Operated as a feedlot. Gary Chipman-Chipman Feeders, 423 Frasier Road, Weiser, Idaho 83672-Operated as a feedlot. The Benedictine Monks of Idaho-541 East 100 South, Jerome, Idaho 83338-The Monks were gift deeded the feedlot by Richard Hormachen. Under their ownership pens were leased and cattle fed as a feedlot operation. Seth Matthews-447 Riverdock Road, Weiser, Idaho 83672-Leased and then later purchased the feed lot from the Benedictine Monks of Idaho in 2001. Mr. Matthews has continued to use the property as a feedlot. This property had been used as a feedlot for approximately forty years prior to his ownership. Benedictine Monks foreclosed on the property in May, 2006 and accepted a purchase offer from John Hoff. Mr. Hoff should close in July, 2006. He plans to clean up the site with DEQ oversight and operate it as an agricultural equipment oiler manufacturing facility, shovel manufacturing facility, and storage for certified organic grain. Site has been sampled for nitrates, ammonia, bacteria, and pharmaceuticals in ground water. Property and surrounding properties, especially those down gradient from the site are impacted by breakdown products of animal waste and pharmaceuticals associated with animal feeding operations. Full extent of contamination is unknown, no soils data is available.
